The livelihoods of the Chepang are basically based on subsistence agriculture, goat farming, and the sale of locally available NTFPs from the nearby forests. The problem of coping with the situation left by the April quake and have given them very hard live to recover from the devastated situation. In addition, to cope with the devastation and vulnerabilities, the poor Chepang people have been forced to sell their household-level assets such as goats and poultry. The proposed project will add value to the current support that is being delivered through the local service providers, for instance, DDC and VDC, and may be through other local agencies. The project will be characterized by helping Chepangs, especially in the recovery and reconstruction phase of the DRR philosophy.
The Rupantaran involvement with funding of the Recovery Program, GIZ, was to support the EQ-affected Chepang community of Lothar and Korak VDCs to revive resilient livelihoods, focusing on recovery and reconstruction.
