Promoting Nature-Based Solutions for Mitigating Wildfire Risks to Restore Farm-Forest-Land Nexus through Locally Led Approaches in Nepal (PunarUtthan)

Punarutthan project seeks to mitigate the risk of wildfire ranging from Chure, the most fragile land, to midhill & terai of four districts across three different provinces in western Nepal. The locations selected are a result of modern image analysis where occurrence, frequency, and land area damaged were considered. As a result of which Bheriganga Municipality (Surkhet), Chure Rural Municipality (Kailali), Buddhabhumi Municipality (Kapilvastu), and Shitaganga Municipality (Arghakhanchi) were selected. The implementation of project activities not only benefits the local population but target to disseminate the results of actions in a larger population group and integration in policy of local level. The project aims to improve awareness of local people, elected representatives, and other relevant stakeholders in wildfire risk mitigation through locally available nature-based solutions. The awareness-raising includes training on fire risk identification, extinguishing techniques, early warning, integration of GESI, as well as scientifically backed intervention will support the livelihood of residents and improve the farm-forest-water nexus.
